Attorney Karen S. Socher Welcome and thank you for considering my services. I help people navigate the complexities of family law. My approach is to try and resolve matters amicably if possible because that usually results in less attorney fees and costs and happier clients. Sometimes, however, litigation is the best course of action, and so I also prepare to litigate. I find that a large part of my success lies in my experience and my perspective. I don't feel bound by traditional ways, I am open to innovative ideas and use my experience and legal skills to find the best solution for my client whether it be through negotiation, litigation, mediation, or some other way. I have experience handling cases involving divorce, paternity, annulment, modification of orders such as support and custody, post-judgment issues, domestic violence, grandparent visitation rights, cohabitation agreements, and more. |

My professional and personal experience has taught me about the long term consequences of family law cases and so I take that into consideration in addition to my client's short term goals. I imagine myself in my client's shoes not just now but in the future to give them the best guidance that I can. I treat my clients with courtesy and respect and try to make them feel that they are in control of their case. I find that my clients place a premium on being kept informed about their case and being able to easily reach me by phone.
Education
I received my law degree from McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific. My last year of law school I attended Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles where I had the good fortune to work as an extern for the Honorable Earl Johnson, Jr. at the California Appellate Court, Second district. I received my bachelor's degree from UCLA. Before starting my practice in 2012, I worked as an associate for family law firms, as a volunteer attorney at California Rural Legal Aid (CRLA), and as a civil litigator handling landlord/tenant cases.
Personal
I am a single parent with two children. My ex-husband and I divorced in 2016, after nearly 30 years as a couple. My personal experience of divorce and raising children after divorce has helped me to better understand what many of my clients endure. I am originally from the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles and I moved to Ventura in 2004. In my free time I enjoy jogging with the dog, reading, and home projects. I love the rain and spending time in the mountains.
